Hanging Out in Singapore

Here are some more fascinating sights from random areas around Singapore.

Nowadays Singapore is a featured destination for Formula 1 enthusiasts thanks to the Singapore Grand Prix, reputed to be the toughest of all the races due to the city's infamous humidity.

A note from the writer: this is a pre-pandemic tale with additional post-pandemic photos.

Being the regional hub for a good number of companies means that the city serves as a melting pot for a fantastic selection of Western and Eastern brands.

But first, we are off to have our morning cup of coffee!

And coincidentally, our favorite fictional cafe is an actual cafe here in SG!

Central Perk is a beloved location for fans of the hit TV show, Friends.

And the menu certainly knows how to play to their target market's nostalgia, with food and drink items directly referencing trivia from the show's history.

Not to mention, they got the ambiance, decor, and vibe down to a tee!

You can tell that everyone here was a fan of the show by the way all eyes were glued, and all laughter was on cue, at the TVs running reruns of the popular hit show.

As a plus, they even recreated the apartments of Chandler and Joey, as well as Monica and Rachel; perfect for photos and memories.

Could you BE any more nostalgic?

Unfortunately, the Cafe closed its doors for good last 2023.

SG is also known for its hawker culture!

Which is a cherished tradition centered on community dining and the preparation of diverse, affordable cuisines in public hawker centers, reflecting the nation's multicultural heritage

Hawkers prepare a wide array of local dishes, including rice dishes, noodles, desserts, and drinks.

The cuisine is a fusion of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and other cultural influences, with hawkers adapting dishes to local tastes.

Hawker culture is deeply ingrained in Singapore's culinary and social fabric, contributing to the nation's identity.

The tradition evolved from street peddling, providing an affordable and accessible way to start a food business and enjoy low-cost meals.

Many hawkers specialize in a particular dish, having refined their skills over many years and passing down recipes and techniques to younger generations.

Suffice to say, prepare to gain a few pounds when visiting SG!

And it definitely pays to have childhood-friends-turned-locals showing you the best spots in the city.

We are in Asia so bubble tea is a must try!

Among the most popular brands, is Koi The, originally from Taiwan and known for its premium tea blends and signature golden boba.

One of favorite stores in Japan is also here! Now known as Hands, this department store focuses on high-quality, functional home improvement, hobby, and lifestyle products. I can spend half a day just browsing through and testing their offerings.

A popular street for expats, tourists, hipsters, and influencers is Haji Lane, a narrow street known for its striking street art, trendy independent boutiques, cozy cafes, and lively bars.

Just the thing we need to beat the heat!

For a no-frills shopping experience, Plaza Singapura has literally everything you could ever need. From toy stores, to electronics and video games, to boutiques, even stores that sell musical instruments; they have it all.

And it is located along the famous Orchard Road, an over 2 kilometer long shopping hub in the Central Area, known for its luxury shopping malls, international brands, diverse dining options, and high-end hotels.

When he hears the word shopping, the little man automatically assumes there's a toy store nearby. And he's often right!

How about some brunch? Just an hour after breakfast lol

Another must-try is Haidilao Hot Pot, a restaurant so good people often line up for hours to get in.

Check out that broth!

Japanese cuisine is also big in the city-state; such as this one offering wagyu beef.

The carnivores in us are excited for the upcoming feast.

What's another few pounds added?!

Fancy Mcdonalds offering exclusive sets!

Man, even their shawarma stands here are elevated!

Happy to see that local micro breweries here are thriving!

The little man is indeed lucky to have both sets of grandparents along for his hijinks.
